A payment calculator for equipment quotes, with an invented espresso machine worked at two terms. It shows a monthly payment, total interest and total cost including the down payment, and leaves out fees, taxes and lease pricing.
Equipment loan calculator in Ames, IA: what coffee shops compare
The comparison a coffee shop can make is term against total. A longer term shrinks the monthly payment and adds interest; the calculator on this page shows both numbers for one quote at a time, and running it twice puts two terms side by side.
| Result | 36 months | 60 months |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly payment | $411.77 | $266.32 |
| Payments in total | $14,823.72 | $15,979.20 |
| Interest | $1,673.72 | $2,829.20 |
| Cost with the down payment | $16,823.72 | $17,979.20 |
The quote behind the table is invented: an espresso machine and grinder at $15,150, $2,000 down, 7.95% a year. At 60 months the payment is $145.45 lighter, and the interest bill $1,155.48 heavier. A chiropractic practice pricing a treatment table, or an auto shop pricing a lift, runs the same comparison with its own quote.
Every total in the table is the monthly payment shown times the number of months, so it can be checked with a phone calculator. Typing the same quote into the calculator on this page, $15,150 with $2,000 down at 7.95% for 36 months, brings up $411.77 a month, $1,673.72 of interest and $16,823.72 in total cost, matching the 36-month column to the cent.
Price, down payment, rate and term: what Story County, IA owners enter
| Box | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Equipment price ($) | The quoted price, with any delivery or installation the vendor bills on the same quote |
| Down payment ($, optional) | Cash put toward the price; leave it empty if there is none |
| Rate (annual %) | The annual rate from an offer, or a rate to test |
| Term (months) | The length of the agreement in months |
The amount financed is the price minus the down payment. A down payment larger than the price leaves nothing financed.
The rate box takes an annual percentage. A merchant cash advance factor, or a lease quoted only as a monthly payment, does not belong there: neither is an annual rate, and the result would mean nothing. A rate typed as 795 instead of 7.95 throws every result off, so check the decimal point before reading the payment. The term box counts months, so a five-year agreement goes in as 60.
Reading the payment, interest and total cost for an Ames, IA espresso machine
| Result | What it means |
|---|---|
| Estimated monthly payment | The same amount every month, sized to clear what is financed by the last month |
| Total interest | All payments minus the financed amount |
| Total cost including down payment | All payments plus the down payment |
For the invented espresso machine at 36 months, the down payment and the payments together come to $16,823.72: the $15,150 price plus $1,673.72 of interest. Cafes comparing two machines can run each quote and set the totals next to each other.
The down payment box moves both results. Raise the invented down payment from $2,000 to $3,500, keep 36 months, and the payment drops to $364.80 while interest falls to $1,482.80, because $1,500 less is financed.
What the equipment calculator on this page leaves out for Story County, IA owners
- Fees, such as origination or documentation fees
- Sales tax, delivery and insurance billed apart from the quote
- Lease pricing: a $1 buyout lease or a fair market value lease is priced another way
- Balloon payments, skipped months or uneven schedules
- Paying the balance off early
Its results are illustrative arithmetic, not an offer; a funding partner’s offer shows the real cost. The equipment financing page explains both lease options. When an offer arrives, enter its amount, annual rate and term here; if the payment shown differs from the offer’s, ask the partner what the gap covers, such as fees, insurance or a different term. When the payment looks workable, the apply page starts a request. The tools and checklists page pairs this calculator with a records list for coffee shops.
